Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles

What could be more exciting for any auction house to offer for sale than these machines which evoke wonderful memories and thrills in equal measure?

June 2021 saw us hold our first scheduled auction of what will now become an annual event.  Last year’s sale was based around a single-owner of five cars and numerous motorcycles, which were discovered during a probate valuation in deepest Norfolk.  The highlight from this collection was a 1934 Alvis Speed 20 SC Tourer by Vanden Plas in fully restored but first class condition; this created huge interest and sold for £61,000.  Other vehicles from the same home included a 1932 Rolls Royce 20/25 Sedanca de Ville which sold for £20,000, and a 1938 MG VA four-seat open tourer which realised £21,000.

As a result of obtaining this collection for auction, further classic vehicles were soon consigned from other properties.   The highlight of these was undoubtedly a 1959 Jaguar XK150 drophead coupe in Carmen red.  This model was the predecessor to the E-type Jaguar and was built in Coventry during Jaguar’s glowing era when only 69 right-hand drive versions were produced.  Our example had been comprehensively restored in the late 1990s and had been dry-stored and barely driven ever since.  Unsurprisingly, competition was fierce with the hammer eventually falling at £77,000.

Overall, the sale was a huge success with 21 of the 23 cars and vintage motorcycles consigned finding buyers.

All vehicles are fully catalogued with extensive information and detailed condition reports by our specialist consultant Bob Collison, who has both a wealth of knowledge in and a passion for, vintage cars.  In particular Bob is also able to advise on preparing cars for sale and give accurate advice as to value.  Marketing for these auctions is extensive, both online and through the motoring trade press.  Bidding is available in person, by telephone, or through our website (where no surcharge is levied).  Furthermore, going forward we will be utilising video footage of all vehicles where possible, as this has proved extremely popular with potential buyers.

Our standard vendors commission for classic cars and motorcycles is 5% plus VAT.
